(IHL) or the International Humanitarian Law is a set of rules that limit armed conflicts. IHL aims to protect innocent lives and to preserve human dignity despite these conflicts. We are often exposed to armed conflict whether it be in the news or in the Netflix series that you're currently binging. Basically everyone that lives on this Earth is exposed to it.
An example of an IHL violation is if an armed party uses civilians as shields or generally endangers prisoners of war, wounded, sick, and civilians. Damaging civilian objects or infrastructure is also considered a violation. IHL is violated so frequently and the more people that know about IHL, the more people that can encourage the government to abide by IHL and limit the effects of conflict. IHL can be extremely important protection to those in war zones, which is why all humans should know about it. The good thing is if we work together we can possibly prevent this from happening.
You can raise awareness by posting a simple message on your social media or even making a cool poster to put on a public bulletin board (e.g library, school, college). Additionally, make sure to check out our Red Cross page on our instagram down below.
